November Class Schedule

(All classes operated via Zoom. CST)

Monday, November 2nd “Mai Tais” 7:00-8:15pm

We’re jumping in the way-way-back machine to some old class favorites this week! Make a classic Mai tai and the cuban El Presidente while we talk about the famous case of voter suppression in Fayette County, Tennessee and how John and Viola McFerran made it their business to stop it in its tracks.

Wednesday, November 4th “Pisco Sours” 7:30-8:45pm

This South American brandy cocktail has a history that dates back to the 18th century, although its country of origin is heavily contested in the cocktail world. Make the original version plus a cinnamon-ginger version while we talk about famous activist Ida B. Wells!

Monday, November 9th “Fernet” 7:00-8:15pm

Fernet Branca is famous for its medicinal, almost minty taste. With a cult-like following, especially among bartenders, fernet was the best kept secret of the hospitality industry in the US until fairly recently. Learn about this Italian bitter as we make a funky fernet sour and a rich, butter Americano!

Wednesday, November 11th “The Wonderful World of Amari” 7:30-8:45pm

We’re keeping it bitter this week and diving into Amari cocktails! A close cousin to Fernet, Amari are bittersweet liquors typically hailing from Italy. These lower proofed cocktails are great for times when you’re feeling like drinking a little lighter. Or for when you’re just feeling bitter AF.

Monday, November 16th “Elderflower Liqueur” 7:00-8:15pm

If you say you hate elderflower liqueur, chances are you’re a liar. It’s just delicious. But what made this relatively new product take off with such force that it’s attained almost cult-like status? Find out why this liqueur is now known as “the ketchup of the bar” in this class!

Wednesday, November 18th, “Aviations” 7:30-8:45pm

Creme de Violette is the start of this show as we talk about the famous Aviation cocktail and how this floral liqueur isn’t your average sweet ingredient.

Monday, November 23rd, “Kir Cocktails & the Occupation of Alcatraz” 7:00-8:15pm

We’ll be talking about the occupation of Alcatraz, a 19-month protest led by the Indians of All Tribes (IOAT) and Red Power activists to reclaim land rightfully belonging to native tribes under the Treaty of Fort Laramie between the United States Government and the Lakota people.

Wednesday, November 25thNO CLASS

Monday, November 30th, “Batched Cocktails” 7-8:15pm

In this class, we’ll be talking about the ultimate holiday tool for making cocktails for a crowd: BATCHING. Taste a batched old fashioned side-by-side with one made to order to see how batching can affect your favorite drinks!
